Jeremy Fermin, Director of Bands

Jeremy Fermin was named the Director of Bands of Veterans High School in 2016. A native of Hinesville, Georgia Mr. Fermin graduated cum laude from The University of Georgia’s Hugh Hodgson School of Music with a Bachelor of Music Education. In 2017, Mr. Fermin received his Masters of Band Conducting from The American Band College of Sam Houston State University in Ashland Oregon.
Under his leadership, Veterans has enjoyed success in the concert hall and on the football field. The total program boasts over 200 students that participate in three concert bands, percussion ensemble, flute ensemble and the award winning Warhwak Squadron marching band. In 2018, the band was invited to perform at the State Capital in Atlanta for the Governor and legislative leaders.
While at UGA, Fermin was was a Drum Major of the 420 person Redcoat Marching Band and President of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Men’s Music Fraternity. He also was awarded the 2010-2011 Sinfonian of the Year, 2011 Albert F. Ligotti Trumpet Award, and the 2010 University of Georgia Undergraduate Conducting Apprenticeship. Mr. Fermin studied trumpet with Brandon Craswell, Edward Sandor, and Fred Mills and in 2009 he studied abroad at the Conservatorio di Musica "Antonio Vivaldi” in Alessandria, Italy.
Prior to his appointment at Veterans, he was Director of Bands at Bradwell Institute from 2012-2016 and assistant director at Perry High School from 2011-2012. While at Bradwell, Fermin was selected as the 2015 Teacher of the Year and in also won the “Best Teacher” in Liberty County’s “Best of…” contest.
As an active member of the Georgia Music Educators Association, Fermin serves as the organizer for the District 11 Jazz Band and has presented clinics at the CNAfME chapters of Columbus State and Georgia Southern University. He has hosted and presided over multiple clinics at the In-Service Conference and in 2018, he was nominated for the GMEA Leadership Symposium that recognized future leaders of the organization. Outside of GMEA, he has serves as a facilitator for the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Program and is one of the founding directors of the Middle Georgia Drum Major Symposium.
Fermin and his beautiful wife Claire reside in Perry, Georgia with their miniature dachshund, Duncan.
